Report Details History of Slavery in Roxbury

A report about the First Church of Roxbury, released Monday, brings new historical perspective about the presence of people of color and enslaved people in colonial Massachusetts. The report largely relied on the First Church of Roxbury records, which are currently located in the Harvard Divinity School library.

Crowds Choose Love over Hate at the U during MLK Week

Dr. Bartholomew’s keynote focused on racial justice and healing practices aimed at restoration, an experiential presentation that centered on Dr. King’s notion of The Beloved Community and invited the audience to participate and feel their way through the experience.

Keynote Speaker for MLK Week Announced

This year’s Martin Luther King Week planning committee is pleased to announce its keynote speaker for 2023: Melissa Wood Bartholomew. Dr. Bartholomew is the Associate Dean for Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging at Harvard Divinity School where she also teaches. A Christ-centered minister and a racial justice and healing practitioner, she is a dynamic and inspiring speaker and was the planning committee’s top choice for keynote this year.

Harvard Radcliffe Institute Dean Tomiko Brown-Nagin delivered the address, titled "Legacies of Slavery: Bondage and Resistance."
