Anne E. Monius, Professor of South Asian Religions, died on August 3, 2019 at the age of 54.
A distinguished scholar and engaging teacher, Monius taught for 17 years at Harvard Divinity School. Her research on the religious traditions of India examined the practices and products of literary culture to reconstruct the history of religions in South Asia; explored the ways in which aesthetics and ethics define religious identity and community in South Asia; and described the creative and productive encounters among competing sectarian religious communities.
