Profile

John P. Brown is an experienced management practitioner and executive with a background in strategic analysis, strategic planning, and management. His leadership roles have included senior executive positions with companies transitioning from private to public ownership as well as having served as a consultant to corporate management, nonprofits and boards of directors on issues involving governance, strategic positioning, and executive leadership transitioning. In his extensive practice of management and as co-founder of a strategic management consulting firm, The Setzer Group, he has drawn on his education at both Harvard Business School and Harvard Divinity School, from which he holds an MBA and MDiv, respectively.

From 1995 to 1998, Mr. Brown was the senior vice president of corporate strategy and corporate secretary of Carson, Inc. (NYSE: CIC), a Savannah-based health and beauty products company later acquired by L’Oréal (Nasdaq: LRLCY). Subsequently, he was a consultant with Crane Metamarketing and Ethical Leadership Group (ELG). His work with ELG encompassed corporate ethics and compliance assignments for Fortune 100 clients in North and South America, Africa, Asia, and Australia.

From 2010 to 2013, he served initially as the deputy director of the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities and later as the acting director. He then joined the senior leadership team at Morehouse College as the director of strategic initiatives and interim vice president of institutional advancement until 2017.

John Brown holds an undergraduate degree in economics from Morehouse College, and graduate degrees, as noted above, from Harvard University.
