HDS is a vibrant, pluralistic community that gives students the opportunity to engage in study and conversation across diverse religious traditions and lived experiences.

If you are a college undergraduate or recent graduate who is curious about divinity or graduate school, and passionate about exploring and addressing the moral and ethical challenges of our world, we encourage you to explore HDS through DivEx. At DivEx, participants have the opportunity to learn more about how the study of religion, theology, and ethics could help you make an impact on the world. Learn more about HDS and our programs.

Join us September 15-17, 2026!

Application Deadline: July 29, 2026 at 11:59 pm EDT

Who Participates?

DivEx is designed for all individuals that are interested in advancing HDS’s vision of creating a just world at peace across religious and cultural divides who have not had extensive experience in traditional or formal studies of religion. Preference is given to seniors in college or those who are within one year of graduation.

Eligibility Note: Please note, we can only accept applications from students who will be traveling from the contiguous United States.

How Much Does It Cost?

DivEx is free. We provide housing, all meals, and domestic airline, bus, or train transportation to and from Boston. Please note that any ground transportation used in your home city to get to the airport, bus, train station, or other transport terminal, and used after arriving in Boston to reach the HDS campus is not included.

“When I came here for DivEx, I knew I had to be here. I felt that same sense of peace, and I believed that HDS was where my education, along with my calling, could be cultivated.”

Please note that attendance in the DivEx Program does not guarantee admission to Harvard Divinity School.

Participants who are seriously considering applying to a degree program at HDS should contact HDS Admissions to discuss the admissions process and the suitability of the program to the student’s future career and educational goals.

Not being selected for the DivEx Program will not adversely affect future application for admission to any HDS program.

The program is not designed for students who already have extensive preparation and robust understanding of the study of religion. Therefore, some students who may be well-qualified for an HDS degree program may not be ideal for participation in DivEx, which is exploratory by design.
